The Cleveland State women's soccer team (4-2-1) lost 2-1 to Bowling Green State University (1-5-1) on a header from Sarah VonderBrink with less than 6:26 left to go in the match. Taylor Miller scored the lone Viking goal on a pass from Natalie Daniels. Kelly Zinkiewich had another three saves to continue her record setting pace.

"We just need to get healthy," head coach Derrek Falor said. "We just need to get into training on Tuesday and get everybody back healthy"

The first half was slow for both teams as both were coming off Friday night games. Both teams claimed a pair of corner kicks and CSU put three shots on net to BGSU's six. Most of both team's chances came with less than half an hour to go in the game.

"The energy we put out there in the second half should have been there in the first half," the coach said.

Zinkiewich came up with a brilliant save to keep the game tied at zero on Bowling Green's first real threat at the 24:56 mark. After the Vikings were called for offsides, Bowling Green took the kick right away and the Flacons' Katelyn Turner had the ball on her feet with plenty of open space. Turner raced in, but Zinkiwich kicked the ball away and kept the game tied for the moment.

But the Falcons would get the opening goal with just 18:23 to go in the game. Falcons' captain Katie Stephenson received a pass and put it into the back of the net. The Cleveland State defense asked the officials if she was offsides and the match referee had to confirm with his line judge that she was on. Bowling Green had taken the lead with less than 20 minutes to go and the flood gates of offense opened.

Cleveland State would answer just minutes later as Taylor Miller put a fantastic ball into the corner of the net. After getting the ball from Daniels, Miller held on to it inside the box and waited of the play to set up. Miller then created some space and bended the ball across the mouth of the goal into the corner of the net. Vikings tied the game 1-1 in the 75th minute.

"Taylor obviously has the ability to strike the ball like that," Falor said. "She is getting the confidence to take that kind of shot.

But the final blow would come with just 6:26 left to go. BGSU would play a crossed ball into the 6-yard box and over Zinkiewich's head. Nobody picked up Sarah VonderBrink and the sophomore bounced the header just over the line for the game winner.

"That's a result we are going to look back at the end of the year and kick ourselves at," Falor said.

Coming into the game, Cleveland State had lost its two previous matched to BGSU by scores of 5-1 (2004) and 6-0 (2005). Jessica Bound, Sylvia Olsby, and Taylor Miller each had a shot on goal on Sunday's match

The Vikings now pack their bags and head to Washington for a two game road trip. Cleveland State faces Washington Friday (Sept. 17) at 10:00 p.m. ET. They then play Seattle Sunday (Sept. 19) at 3:00 p. m. ET.
