CLEVELAND, Ohio – Cleveland State (0-3-0) dropped its home opener to Duquesne (1-1-0) 3-0 on Thursday evening.
The Vikings controlled the opening half behind a 5-3 edge in shots, but found themselves trailing at the intermission, 1-0. The lone goal came on a corner in the 27th minute.
Cleveland State nearly equalized in the 52nd minute as
Olivia Lewis hit the post from just outside box. The Dukes doubled the margin in the 70th minute off a through ball and made it 3-0 in the 79th minute off a giveaway in the back.
Cleveland State had the shot advantage favor them in the game 9-6, but Duquesne held the shots on goal advantage, 4-3.
Sidney Nicholas and
Cortlyn Hefty led the way with two shots apiece.
Hayleigh Lewis made a save in the game.
The Green and White return to the road for a third time in four games at Morehead State on Sunday, Aug. 23 at 1 p.m.
