Summary

Biography

Lucas Burton is the newest addition to the Cleveland State men’s basketball team, head coach Rob Summers announced today. Burton, a 6’8” wing from Vancouver, British Columbia, comes to Cleveland with one year of eligibility remaining.

“Lucas is a strong fit for our program,” said Coach Summers. “He plays with great energy, carries himself with high character, and is extremely coachable—traits we prioritize in our players. Add in his standout athleticism, and he has all the tools to make a quick impact.”

Burton has made stops at three schools prior to his commitment to Cleveland State. He spent the 2024-25 season at NCAA Division II Maryville University in St. Louis, Missouri. Burton played in 27 games with 25 starts and averaged 14.5 points per game in his lone season with the Saints. He shot 61 percent from the field and averaged just under five rebounds per contest. Burton scored in double figures 22 times with a season high of 28 points on February 20 against Truman State. Burton led the team with 128 total rebounds and was second on the team in scoring.

Burton was named Great Lakes Valley Conference Player of the Week in December after averaging 21 points and four rebounds per game in two victories at the Hansen Spear Holiday Classic, where he was named to the All-Tournament Team.

Prior to Maryville, Burton spent the 2023-24 season at Kankakee Community College in Illinois. He spent his first two collegiate seasons at Collin Junior College in Plano, Texas. He played in 13 total games and averaged 3.7 points per game. He finished his career at Collin shooting 64 percent from the field.

Burton attended Lamar High School in Houston where he played four seasons of high school basketball. He was named Houston 6A First-Team All-District as a senior and was also named to the honor roll in his final year.

When asked about his commitment to Cleveland State, Burton stated, “I committed to Cleveland State because everything felt right. The coaches, staff, and faculty showed they believe in me and cared from the start. I trust Coach Summers’ vision for the program and believe he can help me grow on and off the court.”
