Cleveland State Women’s Basketball Adds Ten To 2025-26 Roster

CLEVELAND, Ohio – Cleveland State women's basketball head coach Chris Kielsmeier has announced 10 additions to the roster for the upcoming 2025-26 campaign, as Colby Guinta (Manchester, N.H.), Jada Leonard (Bronx, N.Y.), Sur Lozano (Madrid, Spain), Shay Magassa (Paris, France), Paula Pique (Barcelona, Spain), Laurel Rockwood (Henderson, Nev.), Madison Royal-Davis (Toledo, Ohio), Queen Ruffin (Moreno Valley, Calif.), Ella Van Weelden (Cedar Rapids, Iowa), and Izabella Zingaro (Bolton, Ontario) are set to join the Vikings.

This group will join Hanna Medina Kajevic who signed back in the fall to form the 2025-26 incoming class.

"Our entire program is looking forward to having all of our newcomers on campus this summer, to not only get to work on the court ahead of the 2025-26 campaign, but also to learn our program's culture off the court as we work towards another highly successful season," Kielsmeier said. "This group of newcomers will give us experience at all positions, and will fit into our style of play on the court, making them a good fit for our system. In addition they are all hungry for a special year of basketball competing for a championship in the Green & White!"

Colby Guinta | 5-11 | Forward
Guinta, a 5-foot-11 forward from Manchester, N.H., joins the Vikings after spending the last three seasons at Suffolk University. During three years with the Rams, Guinta played in 78 games – including earning a spot in the starting lineup 73 times – averaging 11.1 points, 4.6 rebounds and 1.8 assists per game.

Last season, Guinta averaged 14.6 points per game, and has combined for 867 total points so far on her career. From three-point range, Guinta is shooting .357 on her career, including a .396 clip last year that ranked her in the top-30 among Division III players. As a sophomore, Guinta helped the Rams to a 20-win campaign, including a spot in the CCC Semifinals.

Guinta played her high school basketball at Tilton School.

Kielsmeier on Guinta: "Colby is a focused, passionate and hard working player. Her offensive ability stood out to us in the recruiting process, and we are excited about her continued development at the Division I level."

Jada Leonard | 5-8 | Guard
Leonard, a 5-foot-8 guard from Bronx, N.Y., joins the Vikings after spending the 2024-25 campaign at Bryant where she redshirted the season. Prior to Bryant, Leonard spent two years at St. Peter's where she averaged 11.3 points, 4.0 rebounds, 2.1 steals, and 2.0 assists per game during her first two collegiate seasons.

During her time at St. Peter's, Leonard appeared in 58 games, earning a spot in the starting lineup on 53 occasions. Averaging 10.0+ points per game during both of her first two collegiate seasons, Leonard combined for seven 20-point performances, finishing her sophomore season with 654 total points.

Leonard played her high school basketball at Monsignor Scanlan, where she was a two-time All-League selection along with an All-State honoree.

Kielsmeier on Leonard: "Jada is an aggressive playmaker who has shown the ability to score at a high level. Her leadership and poise on the court will elevate our team."

Sur Lozano | 6-1 | Guard
Lozano, a 6-foot-1 guard from Madrid, Spain, joins the Vikings following a prep career that included qualifying for the Spanish Championship with three teams in 2021, 2023 and 2025. Playing for Movistar Estudiantes, Real Canoe and Zentro Basket Madrid over the past few years, Lozano was the top scorer in the state regular league in 2024 averaging 15.0 points per game.

In addition, Lozano was part of a 3x3 team that qualified for the Spanish Championship after capturing a silver medal in the 2024 state championship. Lozano has also been part of three Final Four teams, earning one gold medal and two bronze medals during 2021, 2023 and 2025, while also playing on the Madrid All-State team.

Kielsmeier on Lozano: "Sur is a skilled, versatile guard with size. Her international experience has prepared her to play at a high level of competition."

Shay Magassa | 6-1 | Forward
Magassa, a 6-foot-1 forward from Paris, France, joins the Vikings after spending the 2024-25 campaign at LaSalle. During her lone season with the Explorers, Magassa started all 33 games, averaging 7.1 points, 4.6 rebounds and 1.2 steals per game.

Prior to LaSalle, Magassa spent one season at Clarendon, where she averaged 14.3 points per game on a .493 field goal percentage along with 8.0 rebounds, while appearing in 32 games on the year. Magassa began her collegiate career at Northwest Florida State College, where they won the 2022-23 NJCAA Division I women's basketball championship.

Kielsmeier on Magassa: "Shay is a versatile, athletic forward. Her ability to defend, rebound and contribute offensively makes her a great fit for our system."

Paula Pique | 6-1 | Guard
Pique, a 6-foot-1 guard from Barcelona, Spain, joins the Vikings after spending the 2024-25 campaign at Abilene Christian. Playing in 26 games as a freshman, Pique averaged 2.0 points and 1.0 rebounds per game, and earned a spot in the starting lineup against Seattle late in the season.

Prior to Abilene Christian, Pique played for Femeni Sant Adria, earning 1st position U17 – Catalonia State. She also earned 2nd position U18 – Catalonia State and 8th position U18 – Spain during her prep career.

Kielsmeier on Pique: "Paula's length, skill and quickness, along with her collegiate experience in a winning program, make her a great fit for Cleveland State University."

Laurel Rockwood | 6-4 | Center
Rockwood, a 6-foot-4 center from Henderson, Nevada, joins the Vikings after spending four years at UC Santa Barbara where she played in three complete seasons. During her Gaucho career, Rockwood averaged 4.2 rebounds and 3.0 points per game, while shooting 51-percent from the floor.

As a senior, Rockwood played in 29 games for UCSB, earning a spot in the starting lineup during 27 of those contests. She averaged 4.2 rebounds and 2.9 points on a .470 field goal percentage, grabbing double-digit rebounds on three occasions.

Rockwood played her high school basketball at Foothill, where she was a three-time All-Region honoree.

Kielsmeier on Rockwood: "Laurel holds a high basketball IQ and a drive to compete at an elite level. Her energy and effort, especially in rebounding, will be an important part of our identity."

Madison Royal-Davis | 5-11 | Forward
Royal-Davis, a 5-foot-11 forward from Toledo, Ohio, joins the Vikings after spending the last two seasons at Oakland. During the 2024-25 campaign, Royal-Davis appeared in all 31 games for the Grizzlies, including earning a spot in the starting lineup during 26 contests. She averaged 4.5 points on a .478 field goal percentage, along with 6.4 rebounds and 2.1 steals per game.

Prior to Oakland, Royal-Davis spent two seasons at Butler.

Royal-Davis played her high school basketball at Toledo Christian, where she was part of three conference championship teams. As an All-Ohio honoree, Royal-Davis averaged 20.0+ points per game during multiple seasons, while recording a trio of 40-point performances.

Kielsmeier on Royal-Davis: "Madison brings valuable Horizon League experience to our program. Her defensive instincts and rebounding will allow her to impact the game in many ways."

Queen Ruffin | 5-6 | Guard
Ruffin, a 5-foot-6 guard from Moreno Valley, California, joins the Vikings following a year at Indiana State. During her time with the Sycamores, Ruffin averaged 4.3 points and 1.8 rebounds per game, appearing in all 32 contests for Indiana State during the 2024-25 season. 

Prior to her time at Indiana State, Ruffin spent the 2023-24 campaign at Johnson C. Smith, earning CIAA All-Rookie Team honors after averaging 6.2 points and 2.5 rebounds during her freshman season.

Kielsmeier on Ruffin: "Queen is a dynamic, crafty guard with a fearless approach to the game. She brings toughness and intensity every time she steps on the court."

Ella Van Weelden | 6-2 | Forward
Van Weelden, a 6-foot-2 wing from Cedar Rapids, Iowa, joins the Vikings after spending the 2024-25 campaign at Northern Colorado. During her lone season with the Bears, Van Weelden averaged 6.0 points, 2.9 rebounds, 0.9 steals, and 0.8 assists per game, appearing in 29 games on the year.

Prior to her time at UNC, Van Weelden spent three years at Valparaiso where she redshirted her freshman season before moving into the lineup during the 2022-23 and 2023-24 campaigns. Van Weelden appeared in 44 games during her two seasons with the Beacons, averaging 2.0 points and 2.1 rebounds per game.

Van Weelden played her high school basketball at Marion, where she was a three-time All-State and four-time All-Conference honoree, helping the Indians to a 2018 Iowa State Championship.

Kielsmeier on Van Weelden: "We're excited to bring Ella into our program – her length and offensive skillset fit perfectly into our style of play. With her experience, we believe Ella can provide leadership from day one."

Izabella Zingaro | 6-4 | Center
Zingaro, a 6-foot-4 center from Bolton, Ontario, joins the Vikings after spending the 2024-25 season at Montana. During her one season with the Lady Griz, Zingaro averaged 7.7 points per game on a .587 field goal percentage, while also grabbing 3.2 rebounds per contest.

Prior to Montana, Zingaro spent time at Iowa State where she averaged 2.8 points and 2.0 rebounds per game on her career. During the 2022-23 campaign, Zingaro appeared in 24 games for the Cyclones, averaging 3.2 points and 2.0 rebounds per game on the year.

Zingaro played her high school basketball at Caledon Academy, while she was also a member of numerous Canada Basketball teams. She was part of the U15 Team Ontario squad that earned gold at the National Championship, while she was also part of the fifth-place U17 Team Ontario squad.

Kielsmeier on Zingaro: "Izabella brings size, strength and valuable collegiate experience to our frontcourt. She has the ability to anchor the paint and impact the game on both ends of the court."
