CLEVELAND, Ohio – The Cleveland State men's tennis team opened play at the Horizon League Individual Championship Friday, with
Lincoln Battle and
Carl Gedlitschka advancing in the singles draw and the doubles draw.
Playing as the top seed in the singles draw,
Lincoln Battle picked up a pair of straight set wins on Friday, earning a 7-6(4), 6-4 win in the first round and a 6-0, 6-1 victory in the round of 16.
Carl Gedlitschka matched Battle's results, earning a 6-2, 6-2 victory in his first round matchup before posting a 6-3, 6-2 victory in the round of 16.
Nico Jamison was the final Viking to pick up a win in his opening round match, as he earned a 6-1, 3-6, 6-2 victory in the round of 32 before falling in the round of 16.
In the doubles draw, Battle and Gedlitschka picked up an 8-0 victory in their opening match, earning a spot in tomorrow's quarterfinals.
Play will continue tomorrow, with two rounds of main draw singles and one round of main draw doubles.
