Cleveland State Men’s Tennis Set For #HLTennis Tournament Play

CLEVELAND, Ohio – The Cleveland State men's tennis team's quest for its 10th Horizon League Tournament title will begin on Friday, April 24, as the Vikings are set begin play as the North No. 2 seed in this year's tournament. The Vikings will open the Horizon League Tournament with a first round contest against the South No. 3 seed Belmont.

This year's Horizon League Tournament will take place at the Lindner Family Tennis Center in Cincinnati, Ohio, marking the first time the tournament will be held at this location.
 
Under head coach Brian Etzkin the Vikings have had much success in the Horizon League Tournament, capturing nine tournament titles (2008, 2009, 2010, 2011, 2013, 2018, 2019, 2021, 2024). Out of the current Horizon League schools, Cleveland State owns the most tournament titles.
 
Over the last 24 years, the Vikings have combined for a 33-13 #HLTennis Tournament record, have appeared in the semifinals 20 times and have made 13 championship match appearances.
 
Entering tournament play a trio of Vikings have eclipsed the 20-win mark for the season, as Lincoln Battle, Devin Boyer and Carl Gedlitschka all have 22 singles wins. This trio accounted for 13 wins against Horizon League opponents in regular season play, including Battle who finished with a perfect 6-0 record at the top of the lineup.
 
In addition, Boyer and Nico Jamison recorded 5-1 marks in their respective league matches, helping the Vikings to a 4-2 league record.
 
In doubles, Battle and Gedlitschka enter the week ranked No. 58 in the latest ITA Doubles Rankings, owning a team-best 19-8 record on the year. This spring, the duo has a 13-4 mark at No. 1 doubles, including a team-best 5-1 record against league opponents.
 
In addition, Maxime Aremon and Tristan Stine have 13 wins on the year, including 10 this spring playing primarily at the No. 2 spot.
 
Gedlitschka enters tournament play ranked in the top-five on both the CSU Singles and Doubles Wins Lists, as he is tied for fifth with 87 career singles wins and fifth with 82 career doubles wins.
