CINCINNATI, Ohio – The Cleveland State men's tennis team closed out the 2026 spring campaign Friday, dropping a 4-1 match against Belmont in the opening round of the Horizon League Tournament.
Cleveland State was playing as the No. 2 seed in the North Division, while Belmont was playing as the No. 3 seed in the South Division.
The Vikings opened the match with all of the momentum, capturing the early doubles point to take a quick 1-0 lead.
Cleveland State's top doubles team of
Lincoln Battle and
Carl Gedlitschka clinched the doubles point with a 6-2 win, while
Nico Jamison and
Cole Chappell earned a 6-3 victory at the No. 3 spot.
Belmont answered by getting a quick point on the board at No. 4 singles, followed by wins at No. 1 and No. 3 singles, taking a 3-1 edge in the match.
With the three remaining singles matches in third sets after the Vikings picked up wins in all of the second sets, Belmont was eventually able to claim the win at No. 2 singles, clinching the 4-1 victory.
This marked the final match for the senior quartet of
Devin Boyer,
Cole Chappell,
Carl Gedlitschka, and
Andrew Zimcosky.
