CLEVELAND, Ohio – The Cleveland State men's tennis team continued its opening weekend of the fall campaign Saturday and Sunday, with
Lincoln Battle advancing to the second round of the Prequalifying Draw the ITA All-American Championships and play at the WMU Invite concluding.
At the ITA All-American Championships,
Lincoln Battle picked up a first round win in the Pre-Qualifying Singles Draw, earning a 6-3, 6-4 victory over 16 seed Tanapatt Nirundorn of Florida. In his second round matchup, Battle dropped a 6-3, 6-2 decision to Baylor's Marko Miladinovic.
"Lincoln has been working really hard on and off the court so far this year, and it's good to see that pay off with a win in his first round matchup. This was a great experience for him, as he was able to go up against a pair of quality opponents that will give him good experience as we head throughout the rest of the season," head coach
Brian Etzkin said.
At the WMU Invite, the Vikings picked up five singles wins on Saturday, including a 2-0 day from
Cole Chappell who picked up wins against a pair of Western Michigan opponents. In addition,
Nico Jamison,
Carl Gedlitschka and
Maxime Aremon also picked up singles wins on the final day of action.
In doubles, Cleveland State picked up two wins on the final day of the WMU Invite, with Chappell/Aremon and Jamison/Gedlitschka both picking up wins.
For their play this weekend, Chappell and Jamison were both named to the All-Tournament Team.
