Second Half Rally Falls Short At Detroit, 65-55

DETROIT, Mich. - Despite 26 points from Shalonda Winton and a career-high 12 points from Kiersten Green, the Cleveland State women's basketball team fell at Detroit, 65-55. With Thursday's loss the Vikings fall to 10-17 on the season and 5-11 in the Horizon League, while Detroit improves to 15-12 (11-4).

Winton notched 26 points against the Titans, marking her eighth 20-plus point game of the season. Along with her 26 points she tallied a team-high nine rebounds, while Honesty King added nine points and four rebounds.

After going into halftime down by 15 (34-19), the Vikings allowed Detroit to go on an 8-2 run to open the second half as they extended their lead to 21 (42-21) with 17:34 left on the clock. The Titans outscored CSU 20-12 over the next nine minutes as their lead swelled to 62-33.

The Vikings once again made a push late in the second half, going on a 22-3 run starting at the 7:53 mark. For the first five minutes of that run CSU held the Titans scoreless as they came within 15 (62-47) with 2:50 left to play. Green scored nine of her career-high 12 points during that stretch, including her second three-pointer of the game.

Despite the late run, Cleveland State was only able to come within 10 as Detroit claimed the 65-55 victory.

The Vikings shot 35-percent from the floor (19-53) and shot 81-percent from the free throw line (13-16). Cleveland State committed a season-low 11 turnovers while they turned 14 Detroit turnovers into 18 points.

The Titans were led by the trio of Shareta Brown, Jalesa Jones and Lauren Allen who posted 20, 12 and 10 points respectively.

Cleveland State will play its final road game of the regular season this Saturday (Feb. 25), when the Vikings take on Wright State at 2:00 p.m.
