Cleveland, Ohio - Cleveland State senior Dominique Butler reached a career milestone and joined teammate Kailey Klein, becoming just the 21st member to join the 1,000 point club in a 65-49 loss to Green Bay on Thursday night at the Wolstein Center.
CSU fell to 7-8 overall and 1-2 in league play, while the Phoenix moved to 10-3 overall and 2-0 in the league.
Shawnita Garland led the Vikings with 14 points. Natalie Miller and Butler each scored 11 points, while the trio of Butler, Garland and Stephanie Crosley each added eight rebounds.
The Vikings were led in the first half by Butler, who scored nine points and Shawnita Garland who netted five points.
Butler led the Vikings scoring six points from the field and adding another three from the free throw line. Garland netted two lay-ups, including the first points for the Vikings coming at 16:44 and made one of two first half free throws.
The Phoenix took advantage of 14 rebounds and their defense held the Vikings to just 20-percent from the field.
Cleveland State came out of the locker room hot, doubling their first half score in the first eight minutes of the second half.
Janelle Adams and Natalie Miller gave Cleveland State a second half spark, scoring 19 of the Vikings 35 points.
The Vikings overall shot 33% from the field and 47% from the free thrown line, while the Phoenix shot 46% from the field and 58% from beyond the three-point line.
The Phoenix were led by a 19 point performance from Heather Golden. Lavesa Glover added 12 points, while Celeste Hoewisch added 10 of her own.
The Vikings will return to action on Saturday, Jan. 10, at 5:00 p.m., when they host Milwaukee at the Wolstein Center.
