CLEVELAND, Ohio - All good things must come to and end.
Such was the case for the Cleveland State women's basketball team on Thursday night as Green Bay snapped the Vikings five-game win streak with an 87-61 victory at the Kress Center in Horizon League action.
CSU fell to 8-6 overall and 2-1 in the Horizon League, while the Phoenix improved to 11-3 overall (3-0 HL).
Robyn Hoying led the Vikings with her first career double-double as she finished with career-highs in points (20) and rebounds (10). Angel Roque added a career-high 15 points, including a 5-for-8 effort from three-point. Kailey Klein was held to just nine points, the first time in 17 contests that she did not reach double figures. She was limited to just 17 minutes due to foul trouble.
"I was disappointed with how we responded to adversity," head coach Kate Peterson Abiad said. "In the face of adversity, I thought we were mentally weak and the players we have to depend on disappeared for us.
"But Robyn and Angel really picked up for that and I was pleased with their effort. We need Angel to be the kid who steps up and hits some three point shots and tonight, she filled that role for us."
Kati Harty led five Phoenix players in double figures with 15 points, while Heather Golden added 13 points. Erin Templin and Lavesa Glover scored 12 points apiece and Rachel Porath finished with 11.
The Phoenix raced out to a 25-9 lead with just over 11 minutes to play in the first half as they hit 9 of their first 11 shots and never looked back.
Green Bay shot an impressive .667 (34-51) from the field, including .500 (8-16) from three-point. It was the best shooting effort against CSU this season and the first time a team shot better than .500.
The Vikings were just 17-of-55 (.309) from the floor, but did hit 9-of-21 (.429) from three-point and 18-of-21 (.857) from the foul line.
Hoying and Roque combined to go 10-of-19 from the field and 8-of-13 from three-point, while the rest of the Vikings were just 7-of-36 from the floor.
The Phoenix also held a 34-28 advantage
CSU has little time to dwell on the loss as the Vikings will be back in action on Saturday, Jan. 12, for a 2:00 p.m. CST contest at Milwaukee.
