QUICK SETS
The Cleveland State volleyball team will open its 16-match Horizon League slate on the road this week, traveling to Purdue Fort Wayne for a two-match series on Friday, September 25 and Saturday, September 26.
 
ENTERING #HLVB PLAY…
Cleveland State owns a 14-12 record in #HLVB openers under head coach Chuck voss, including wins in five of the last six matches…The Vikings will be on the road to start Horizon League action for the seventh time over the last eight years…Cleveland State will be facing Purdue Fort Wayne in the #HLVB opener for the first time.
 
AGAINST THE MASTODONS
Cleveland State enters the week with an 8-7 overall record against Purdue Fort Wayne, including a series sweep last season. The Vikings have won six out of the last seven matchups against the Mastodons,with four of those wins coming on the road.
 
NEW LOOK VIKINGS
This year's edition of the Vikings features just nine returners from last year's team, while they are joined by nine newcomers. This newcomer group includes seven true freshmen and two transfers.
 
…MAKING AN IMMEDIATE IMPACT
This group of newcomers has made an immediate impact for the Vikings, including freshman Addison Koppelman who has appeared in all 42 sets played. In addition, transfers Jazen DeBina and Fiona Cooper have each played in 38+ sets for the Vikings, while Abigail Bartolo and Laila Mossey have spent a considerable amount of time in the backrow.
 
CLEVELAND STATE FROM THE SERVICE LINE
Entering #HLVB play, Cleveland State leads all Horizon League teams averaging 2.02 service aces per set. For the year, the Vikings have combined for 85 aces, including a season-best 15 against Mercyhurst. The Vikings are one of two league teams with 85+ aces on the year, while CSU is the only team to have two individuals ranked in the top-five in the same category.
 
…DEBINA LEADS INDIVIDUAL CATEGORY
Individually, Jazen DeBina has a team and league-best 23 service aces on the year, including six against Coppin State earlier this season. Debina, who is averaging 0.61 aces per set this season, is joined by Fiona Cooper (3rd-0.45) in the top-five, while Addison Koppelman ranks 12th (0.36).
 
DELVENTHAL CLOSING IN ON 900 CAREER DIGS
After notching her third 20-dig match with 23 against Kent State last week, Vayda Delventhal enters Horizon League play with 853 career digs. Delventhal, who is closing in on 900 career digs, leads the Vikings and ranks third among league players averaging 4.14 digs per set. Through 11 matches played, Delventhal has recorded double-digit digs 10 times.
 
KOEHLER TIED FOR 10^TH ON SOLO BLOCKS LIST
After combining for eight solo blocks through non-league play, senior JeriLynn Koehler enters the week tied for 10th in the CSU Career Record Book with 57 solo blocks through her four seasons as a Viking. With three more solo blocks, Koehler would move into ninth place on the list and become just the ninth Viking all-time with 60+ solo blocks.
 
JOZEFOV ON THE ATTACK
Through 11 matches played, Julia Jozefov has been Cleveland State's most efficient offensive player, owning a .342 hitting percentage to rank fourth among Horizon League players. For the season, Jozefov is averaging 2.10 kills per set, and had her best match of the season against Valparaiso earlier this year, finishing with a career-high 16 kills with zero errors on 20 attempts for a .800 hitting percentage.
 
VANVLEET NAMED TO MERCYHURST ALL-TOURNAMENT TEAM
Earlier this season, Bryn VanVleet earned a spot on the Mercyhurst Invitational All-Tournament Team, averaging 3.17 kills per set along with 1.75 digs per set through the three matches. VanVleet posted double-digit kills in all three matches, including a season-high 16 kills against Siena.
 
…JOZEFOV NAMED TO LEHIGH ALL-TOURNAMENT TEAM
During the first weekend of play, Julia Jozefov earned a spot on the Lehigh Invitational All-Tournament Team, averaging 2.11 kills per set on a .395 hitting percentage. In addition, Jozefov also averaged 0.56 blocks per set. Against Gardner-Webb, Jozefov recorded eight kills - with zero errors - on a .667 hitting percentage along with four total blocks to lead the Vikings to their second win of the weekend.
 
VANVLEET & CEROVAC WIN GLOBAL CHALLENGE
This summer, Bryn VanVleet and Alyssa Cerovac competed in the Global Challenge 2026, claiming the U17 Title with BIP SE. This marked the second straight year that the Vikings had a current or incoming student-athlete participating, as VanVleet also competed in 2025.
 
HEAD COACH CHUCK VOSS
Chuck Voss is in his 27th season at the helm of the Vikings, and owns a 442-334 (.569) overall record at Cleveland State. Under Voss the Vikings have recorded 19 winning seasons, including a streak of 10 straight from 2009-2018. Cleveland State has eclipsed the 20-win mark nine times since Voss took over the program, and has captured Horizon League Tournament titles six times under his guidance.
 
LOOKING AHEAD
The Vikings will return home for two matches to begin the month of October, hosting Northern Kentucky on Friday, October 2 and Wright State on Saturday, October 3.
