QUICK SETS
The Cleveland State volleyball team will close out non-league play this week, traveling to Kent State on Thursday, September 17 and hosting Akron on Friday, September 18. This will mark week four of the 2026 campaign, and will be the final two matches of an 11-match non-league slate.
 
AGAINST THE OPPONENTS
Cleveland State enters the week with a 24-23 overall record against Akron and a 27-32 mark against Kent State. Last week, the Vikings dropped a 3-1 contest against the Zips, while last year's matchup against the Flashes ended in a 3-0 CSU victory.
 
CLOSING OUT NON-LEAGUE PLAY
This weekend's matches will mark the final two contests of an 11-match non-league slate, closing out four weeks of preseason tournament play. The Vikings will open up their 16-match Horizon League schedule next week, which will include eight matches at Woodling Gymnasium.
 
NEW LOOK VIKINGS
This year's edition of the Vikings features just nine returners from last year's team, while they are joined by nine newcomers. This newcomer group includes seven true freshmen and two transfers.
 
…VIKING DEBUTS
So far this season, six players have made their collegiate debuts while a pair of Vikings have made their Cleveland State debuts. Included in this group were freshmen Laila Mossey, Alyssa Cerovac, Sariyah Glanton, Abigail Bartolo, and Addison Koppelman, while Sophie Skidmore made her debut after sitting out last season, and Fiona Cooper and Jazen DeBina made their CSU debuts after transferring in last spring.
 
CLEVELAND STATE FROM THE SERVICE LINE
Entering the fourth week of play, Cleveland State leads all Horizon League teams averaging 2.18 service aces per set. For the year, the Vikings have combined for 74 aces, including a season-best 15 against Mercyhurst. The Vikings are the only league team with 70+ aces on the year, while CSU is the only team to have three individuals ranked in the top-10 in the same category.
 
…DEBINA LEADS INDIVIDUAL CATEGORY
Individually, Jazen DeBina has a team and league-best 21 service aces on the year, including six against Coppin State last time out. Debina, who is averaging 0.66 aces per set this season, is joined by Fiona Cooper (5th-0.44) and Addison Koppelman (6th-0.41) on the top-10 list among Horizon League players.
 
JOZEFOV ON THE ATTACK
Through nine matches played, Julia Jozefov has been Cleveland State's most efficient offensive player, owning a .349 hitting percentage averaging 2.03 kills per set. Last weekend, Jozefov recorded her second double-digit kill effort of the season against Valparaiso, finishing with a career-high 16 kills with zero errors on 20 attempts for a .800 hitting percentage.
 
DELVENTHAL CLOSING IN ON 900 CAREER DIGS
After combining for over 50 digs last weekend - including a season-high 24 dig effort against Valparaiso - junior Vayda Delventhal is closing in on 900 career digs, currently sitting at 822. Delventhal, who ranks fourth among Horizon League players averaging 4.21 digs per set on the year, has tallied double-digit digs in all nine matches, including a pair of 20-dig performances.
 
KOEHLER CLOSING IN ON 500 CAREER KILLS
JeriLynn Koehler enters her senior season closing in on 500 career kills, currently sitting at 464. Koehler, who averaged a career-high 2.21 kills per set as a sophomore, has combined for 115+ kills in two of her first three seasons. In addition, Koehler is also closing in on 275 total blocks, entering the week with 199 block assists and 54 solo blocks for 253 total blocks on her career.
 
VANVLEET NAMED TO MERCYHURST ALL-TOURNAMENT TEAM
Earlier this season, Bryn VanVleet earned a spot on the Mercyhurst Invitational All-Tournament Team, averaging 3.17 kills per set along with 1.75 digs per set through the three matches. VanVleet posted double-digit kills in all three matches, including a season-high 16 kills against Siena.
 
…JOZEFOV NAMED TO LEHIGH ALL-TOURNAMENT TEAM
During the first weekend of play, Julia Jozefov earned a spot on the Lehigh Invitational All-Tournament Team, averaging 2.11 kills per set on a .395 hitting percentage. In addition, Jozefov also averaged 0.56 blocks per set. Against Gardner-Webb, Jozefov recorded eight kills - with zero errors - on a .667 hitting percentage along with four total blocks to lead the Vikings to their second win of the weekend.
 
VANVLEET & CEROVAC WIN GLOBAL CHALLENGE
This summer, Bryn VanVleet and Alyssa Cerovac competed in the Global Challenge 2026, claiming the U17 Title with BIP SE. This marked the second straight year that the Vikings had a current or incoming student-athlete participating, as VanVleet also competed in 2025.
 
HEAD COACH CHUCK VOSS
Chuck Voss is in his 27th season at the helm of the Vikings, and owns a 442-332 (.571) overall record at Cleveland State. Under Voss the Vikings have recorded 19 winning seasons, including a streak of 10 straight from 2009-2018. Cleveland State has eclipsed the 20-win mark nine times since Voss took over the program, and has captured Horizon League Tournament titles six times under his guidance.
 
LOOKING AHEAD
The Vikings will open Horizon League play on the road, traveling to Purdue Fort Wayne for a two-match series on Friday, September 25 and Saturday, September 26.
