CLEVELAND, Ohio – Cleveland State volleyball head coach
Chuck Voss has announced the addition of four newcomers for the upcoming 2026 campaign, as
Abigail Bartolo (Perrysburg, Ohio),
Sophie Butler (Toronto, Canada),
Sariyah Glanton (St. Louis, Missouri), and
Laila Mossey (Aurora, Illinois) are set to join the Vikings this fall.
ABIGAIL BARTOLO | DEFENSIVE SPECIALIST
Bartolo comes to Cleveland State after playing her high school volleyball at Perrysburg, where she helped the team to back-to-back District Championships and back-to-back Regional Semifinal appearances.
Bartolo played for Premier Volleyball Academy, where she earned a spot on the JVA Watchlist and was honored with the JVA Athleader Award.
Academically, Bartolo plans on majoring in Economics/Pre-Law after earning High Honor Roll all four years of her high school career and a spot on the All-Conference and All-District Academic Team.
Bartolo on Why CSU: "I chose Cleveland State because of the strong team culture and emphasis on academics. It felt like a place where I can grow as both an athlete and a person, while being pushed and supported every day. I knew it was somewhere I could see myself thriving both on and off the court!"
SOPHIE BUTLER | MIDDLE BLOCKER
Butler comes to Cleveland State following a prep career at Birchmont Park Collegiate where she was a two-time OVA Award of Excellence honoree. Butler also played club volleyball for Phoenix Legacy, where she was part of a Silver Medal team at the OVA Provincial Championship in 2026.
Academically, Butler plans on majoring in sport & entertainment management after earning Ontario Scholar honors throughout her high school career.
Butler on Why CSU: "The girls and coaches on the CSU team sold me on my recruiting trip. Being from Canada I have always wanted to play at a D1 school and Cleveland State seems to be the prefect fit for my education and volleyball future. I loved the detailed practice, coaching style, campus and meeting my future teammates was a highlight and is what sealed my choice to become a Viking!!"
SARIYAH GLANTON | MIDDLE BLOCKER
Glanton joins the Vikings as a Suburban North Blue Conference Player of the Year and four-time All-Conference honoree. In addition, Glanton earned a spot on multiple All-Tournament teams, including the Suburban North All-Conference Team.
Glanton played for Panathinaikos A.O. USA, earning the Rockin' Rockford All-Tournament Award in 2026.
In the classroom, Glanton earned Academic Honor Roll every year of her high school career.
Glanton on Why CSU: "From the moment I visited, the coach and players made me feel genuinely welcomed. Their energy and the way they interacted with each other showed a strong, positive team culture that I could see myself being a part of. The campus itself really stood out to me. It's a beautiful setting with a lot of life and opportunity around it, and I could easily picture myself living and studying here."
LAILA MOSSEY | DEFENSIVE SPECIALIST
Mossey comes to Cleveland State after recording 1,200+ digs during her high school career, earning Southwest Prairie Conference All-Area Honorable Mention three times, along with a spot on the JVA Watchlist, AVCA Phenom list and Great Lakes USA Volleyball High Performance Training Team.
Playing for Sports Performance Volleyball, Mossey was part of a team that placed first at the 2025 Copa Internacional Tournament (Brazil), won the 2025 Indy Cup Champions-17 Open Division, and captured the 2024 JVA-16 Open title.
In the classroom, Mossey plans to major in marketing.
