CLEVELAND, Ohio – The Cleveland State volleyball team returned home to continue Horizon League play Friday, dropping a 3-1 match against Northern Kentucky.
Three Vikings finished the match with double-digit kills, including
Bryn VanVleet with 16.
Jazen DeBina posted 13 kills while
Julia Jozefov added 10.
Fiona Cooper posted 47 assists on the match along with seven digs, while
Vayda Delventhal recorded 23 digs to lead the Viking defense.
Cleveland State combined for seven service aces on the match, including three from DeBina.
After dropping the first set, the Vikings responded with a 25-23 win in the second set.
Despite trailing midway through the frame, the Vikings were able to notch four straight points to gain an 18-17 advantage following a trio of kills from
JeriLynn Koehler, DeBina and
Bryn VanVleet along with an
Addison Koppelman service ace.
The two teams then traded points over the next few plays, until an NKU error tied the score at 23-23. Cleveland State then earned set point on a VanVleet service, while another VanVleet ace closed out the 25-23 victory.
Although the two teams headed into the third set with the match tied at 1-1, NKU was able to pick up wins in the next two sets to close out the four-set match.
Cleveland State will host Wright State at 4:00 p.m. tomorrow to close out its mini two-match homestand.
