HIGHLAND HEIGHTS, Ky. – The Cleveland State men's tennis team opened its Horizon League slate Friday evening, picking up a 6-1 victory at Northern Kentucky.
"This was a solid first league match for us, our depth definitely showed itself today," head coach
Brian Etzkin said. "Northern Kentucky always fights until the end, so this was a good test for us in the opening match of our league slate, and we are looking forward to the next one tomorrow."
The Vikings were able to pick up the early doubles point with wins at the No. 1 and No. 3 spots, as

Carl Gedlitschka earned a 6-2 win at the top of the lineup and
Nico Jamison/
Cole Chappell picked up a 7-5 win at No. 3 doubles.
Chappell carried his momentum into singles play then, as he cruised to a 6-2, 6-2 victory at No. 4 singles to give the Vikings a 2-0 advantage.
Jamison then put Cleveland State up 3-0 with a 6-3, 7-5 win at the No. 3 spot, before
Devin Boyer clinched the match for the Vikings with a 6-2, 6-3 win at No. 6 singles.
Maxime Aremon added to Cleveland State's score with a 6-4, 6-2 win at No. 5 singles, while Battle picked up the final singles point of the day with a 7-6(4), 6-4 win at the top of the lineup.
The Vikings will continue the first weekend of Horizon League play tomorrow, traveling to IU Indy for a 2:00 p.m. contest.
