CLEVELAND, Ohio – The Cleveland State men's tennis team opened the weekend with a Friday night match, coming up short against St. John's 4-3.
Although the Vikings dropped the doubles point, Cleveland State's No. 1 doubles team of
Lincoln Battle and
Carl Gedlitschka earned a 6-2 win over St. John's.
Devin Boyer then evened the match with a quick win in singles, as he posted a 6-3, 6-1 victory at the No. 6 spot.
St. John's was then able to rattle off the next three singles wins though, picking up points at No. 4, No. 3, and No. 1 singles to clinch the match.
The Vikings then earned wins in the final two matches on court, with Gedlitschka earning a 7-6, 7-6 win at the No. 2 spot and
Cole Chappell posting a 6-4, 4-6, 6-3 win at No. 5 singles.
Cleveland State will be back in action on Sunday, hosting Butler at 2:00 p.m. inside the MMTP.
