CLEVELAND – Cleveland State's student-athletes posted a 3.55 term GPA across its 16 sport programs, its best semester term GPA ever. The GPA marks the 39
th consecutive semester that Cleveland State student-athletes have finished with a cumulative GPA of 3.0 or higher. It is also the 14
th-straight semester of a GPA 3.3 or higher dating back to the 2018-19 academic year.
"This is an incredible accomplishment by our student-athletes and showcases the culture of academic excellence in the athletics department," Vice President and Director of Athletics
Kelsie Gory Harkey said. "This reflects the dedication of our academic staff of Kristina Artino, Meghan Sanniti, Morgan Sutton, Jessica Livermore and Marissa Ostromek and how they work to the betterment of our student-athletes, as well as our coaches and staff. We are especially proud of our graduating student-athletes and look forward to following their future success in the community."
On the women's side, women's tennis finished with the highest GPA in the department with a 3.83. Overall, 30 student-athletes finished with a 4.0 GPA for the semester, including Leah Geisz, Anna Mancino, Marta Rodriguez and Laura Tapia from women's tennis. Volleyball, cross country and women's soccer all finished with a GPA of 3.7 or higher. Overall, every women's program finished with a 3.44 GPA or higher, and the term GPA was 3.64.
On the men's side, men's basketball led the way with a 3.62 GPA, and four teams finished with a 3.4 GPA or higher. Nine student-athletes finished with perfect 4.0's on the semester, including the duo of Tre Beard and Foster Wonders from men's basketball. Overall, the term GPA was 3.45 for Cleveland State's men's sports programs.
Across the department, 39 students finished with a perfect 4.0 GPA. 180 students were named to the Dean's List, while 27 students were named to the prestigious President's List. Students recognized on the President's List must have a GPA of 3.9 or higher after taking a course load of 15 credit hours in a semester. Overall, 207 student-athletes were recognized for academic excellence.
