Opening Whistle
Cleveland State starts the month of September with a pair of games starting at Duquesne on Thursday, September 4, and then at home on Sunday, September 7, for St. Bonaventure.

Last Game Out
The Vikings are coming off a 1-1 draw at home versus St. Francis on Thursday evening. The Red Flashes scored the only goal of the first half in the 24th minute and led until Tanji Sarver equalized in the 81st minute off an assist from Mayra Sesmas.

The Green & White held a heavy advantage in offensive stats with 37 shots and 13 corner kicks compared to seven shots and one corner for the visitors.

About Duquesne
Duquesne enters the game with a 3-1-0 overall record and hasn't played at home since defeating St. Francis on Aug. 21, 3-0. Last time out, the Dukes were shutout by West Virginia on Thursday, 3-0. Maya Matesa has scored seven of the 12 goals on the year, and Kayla Leseck has a team-best three assists. Ali Hughes has played every minute in goal, accumulating 13 saves.

Series History
This will be the fourth meeting with Duquesne winning the previous three games. These two teams last met in 2012 in Pittsburgh as the Green and White fell, 2-1.

About St. Bonaventure
The Bonnies will come to Krenzler Field on Sunday with a 1-2-2 overall record but are unbeaten in their previous two games. St. Bonaventure is coming off a 5-0 shutout at Post on Sunday. Giovanna Coghetto has notched four of the team's eight goals on the year. Three different keepers have logged minutes, led by Juliana Castellano with four appearances and 19 saves.

Series History
This will be the eighth meeting between these two teams, with the Bonnies holding a 4-2-1 advantage. The last matchup came in 2023, with the Vikings falling on the road, 3-1. The last game in Cleveland was in 2022, which ended in a scoreless draw.

Mayra Sesmas, currently in her senior season, has 13 career goals, which is tied for the fifth most all-time. She is presently six back of the program record of 19, currently held by Vickie Havas (2012-15) and Natalie Daniels (2008-11).

After picking up an assist against St. Francis, Sesmas took sole possession of eighth all-time in career points with 31. She is two points back of seventh and 27 behind the program leader, Natalie Daniels' mark.

Returning Players
Cleveland State returns 14 letterwinners from last season, including points leader Mayra Sesmas {5 goals & 1 assist}. Sophia Cucchetti also returns as the assists leader with three.

Head Coach Mark Sappington
Sappington is in his second season with the Green and White after being named the fourth head coach in program history prior to last season. In his first season, the team went 2-14-1 overall and 2-8-0 in the league.

Preseason Poll
The Cleveland State women's soccer team has been chosen to finish eleventh in the Horizon League for the 2025 season, as voted on by the league coaches.

Milwaukee took the No. 1 spot after receiving 10 first-place votes for 120 points. Northern Kentucky was second with 105 points, and Detroit Mercy was third with the final first-place vote for 98 points. The Vikings slotted in the final spot with 27 points.
