PITTSBURGH, Pa. – Cleveland State (1-3-1) was handed a 4-1 setback by Duquesne (4-1-0) on Thursday evening.
The Dukes capitalized on a bad clearance by the Green and White goalkeeper to take a 1-0 advantage in the eleventh minute. The scoreline remained the same at the break, with the home team holding an 8-5 edge in shots.
Duquesne doubled the margin in the 54th minute as Kaitlyn Killinger volleyed in her initial shot that went off the post. Four minutes later, an own goal occurred after the Vikings were unable to clear a corner kick.
In the 59th minute, Duquesne tacked on a fourth goal as Paige Kuisis found the back of the net off a pass from Maya Matesa.
Cleveland State got on the board in the 69th minute as
Mayra Sesmas chipped the keeper from the goal line off a throw-in from
Elise Boyd.
Sesmas had five of the nine shots on the night, with four of those on frame.
Tanji Sarver had three shots, including two on goal.
Hayleigh Lewis played the first 61 minutes, making seven saves.
The Vikings return home on Sunday, Sept. 7, for a 1 p.m. game against St. Bonaventure.
