CLEVELAND, Ohio – Cleveland State (1-2-1) and St. Francis (0-2-1) battled to a 1-1 draw on Thursday evening despite the Green and White dominating every statistical category.
The Red Flashes opened the scoring in the 24th minute as Riley Kerr capitalized on a pair of mistakes in the back off a ball over the top from Kaitlyn Dempster. The scoreline remained 1-0 at the break despite the Vikings holding a 15-6 edge in shots.
The Green and White continued to mount the pressure in the second half, which led to the tying goal in the 81st as
Tanji Sarver finished off a cross from
Mayra Sesmas. CSU kept on the attack in the final ten minutes but was unable to come up with a game-winner.
The second half saw the home team hold a 22-1 advantage in shots and take ten corner kicks.
For the game, Cleveland State held a 37-7 advantage in shots, including an 11-2 margin in shots on goal. The corner kicks were 13-1 in favor of CSU.
Cortlyn Hefty led the way with eight shots, including four on target. Sesmas also had four shots on goal and seven total in the game.
Alicia Riberich came off the bench to contribute six shots.
Hayleigh Lewis made one save in the contest.
Cleveland State will have a week between games, with Duquesne next up on the road, Thursday, Sept. 4, at 7 p.m.
