Cleveland State Men’s Golf Tied for Second after 36 Holes at Horizon League Championship

Howey in the Hills, FL-The Cleveland State men's golf team battled through tough conditions to post an 8-over 296 in the second round of the Horizon League Men's Golf Championship at Mission Resort. The Vikings moved up two spots in the team standings and are tied for second place at 21-over par through two rounds. Cleveland State is tied with IU Indianapolis for second and sits three shots back of Wright State who leads the team race at 18-over par. The 296 was the second-lowest round of the day by any team and one shot shy of Robert Morris who posted 295.

High winds made scoring conditions tough throughout the morning and all four of Cleveland State's counting scorers are in the top 20 in the individual standings. No player broke par in round two.

Andrew Kaye tied the lowest round of the day with a second consecutive even par 72. Kaye sits in solo second place in the individual race, three shots back of IU Indy's Titus Boswell who also posted an even par round on Sunday. Boswell is the only player in the field in red numbers at 3-under. Kaye posted five birdies in his second round and overcame a triple bogey on the sixth hole to post even par. He posted a 1-under 36 on the back nine, his first nine of the day.

Mason Frazier is tied for ninth at 5-over par for the tournament. Frazier posted three birdies in his second round and also finished 1-under on the back nine for a 36.

Brody Simms and Dillon Pendergast are each tied for 17th at 8-over for the tournament. Simms overcame a quintuple bogey 10 on the first hole with a 2-under 35 on the back nine. Simms finished the day with four birdies and an eagle on the 14th hole to finish at 3-over 75 for the day. Pendergast posted a 4-over 76 on Sunday that included three birdies on the front nine as part of an even par 35 to close his round.

Ryan Dinan is in a tie for 44th place at 18-over par. Dinan finished with a 79 on day two which was a four-shot improvement over his first round score.

Cleveland State continued its scoring success on the par-5's posting a second-straight 5-under total to lead the field at 10-under on the par-5's through the first two rounds. The Vikings also rank second in the field with 29 total birdies.

Cleveland State will be in the final pairing tomorrow in the final round of the tournament. The Vikings will compete alongside IU Indy and Wright State with tee times scheduled for 8:20 a.m. off the first tee. Live scoring will be available on Scoreboard Live throughout the final round.
