Detroit, MI-The men's epee team recorded a third-place finish highlighting the opening day of the Cleveland State fencing teams competing at the CCFC Championship on Saturday.
The men's team went 1-3 in the overall competition with the victory coming against Detroit Mercy in the fourth round. The women's team finished 2-4 on the day with victories in its last two rounds, defeating Detroit Mercy in round five and Wayne State in the seventh and final round.
The men's epee squad picked up 17 total bout victories on the day, which was good for the third-most among the competing teams.
Tomorrow's event will feature an individual competition with student-athletes competing in pool play to start the day. The full field will then be cut down to eight individuals in each weapon and gender who will then face off in a round-robin competition to determine the individual champion.
