GRANVILLE, Ohio – The Cleveland State fencing team wrapped up action at the CCFC Championships Sunday, competing in the individual competition, with
Nolan Giovagnoli placing seventh in the men's epee.
After going 6-5 during pool play, Giovagnoli earned a spot in the elimination round, dropping his opening contest against Wayne State's Mahmoud Elsayed, to finish seventh overall in the men's epee event.
Along with Giovagnoli, five other Vikings finished in the top-15 for the men, including
Marcus Strugar who barely missed a top-10 finish after placing 11
th in the foil.
Ben Palladino (13
th) and
Adrian Rakotozafy (14
th) joined Giovagnoli in epee, while
Sal Sorrentino (12
th) joined Strugar in foil. In addition,
Simon Caisse placed 14
th overall in saber.
Strugar paced the Vikings with six wins on the day, while Giovagnoli and Palladino both recorded five.
The women were led by the trio of
Aubrey Testroet (T-12),
Rayllen Prafil Capaccio (14
th) and
Anna Quinn (15
th) who all recorded top-15 finishes after advancing to the second round of pool play.
Testroet recorded her T-12 finish in saber, posting a pool record of 4-7. Capaccio tallied a team-best 5-5 record on the day to finish 14
th in epee, while Quinn went 4-6 to notch her 15
th place finish in foil
Next up for the Vikings will be the NCAA Regionals, which will be hosted at the Wolstein Center on Sunday, March 8.
