GRANVILLE, Ohio – The Cleveland State fencing team opened up action at the CCFC Championships Saturday, with the men's team placing third overall.
In addition, men's foil placed third and men's saber tied for third to lead the individual weapons.
The men were able to clinch their third place overall finish in the last round of the day against Lawrence, which included all weapons finishing in 5-4 scores.
Marcus Strugar picked up the final win of the match in foil, capping off a team-best 8-4 record on the day.
Matching Strugar's 8-4 record on Saturday was
Simon Caisse, who also picked up eight wins in saber to help the Vikings tie for third place in the weapon.
In addition,
Jamison Horne,
Nolan Giovagnoli and
Ben Palladino all picked up six wins on the day.
For the women, the epee squad narrowly missed finishing third in their weapon, even tying Wayne State who finished third overall.
Individually,
Anna Klimenko posted a team-best 12-6 record in epee, while
Anna Quinn tallied 10 wins in foil and
Rayllen Prafil Capaccio also finished with 10 wins in epee.
During the day, the Viking men picked up wins against Detroit Mercy and Lawrence, while the women earned a win against Detroit Mercy.
Action at the CCFC Championships will close out tomorrow, with individual competition.
