CLEVELAND, Ohio – The Cleveland State men's tennis team picked up a pair of wins Sunday, earning wins over Ball State and Findlay.
Cleveland State opened the day with a 4-3 victory over Ball State, marking its second straight 4-3 win.
The Vikings picked up the doubles point for the first time this season, using wins at the top two spots.
Lincoln Battle and
Devin Boyer earned a 6-4 win at No. 1 doubles, while
Carl Gedlitschka and
Nico Jamison earned a matching 6-4 victory at the No. 2 spot.
Cleveland State extended its lead with a win at No. 4 singles, as
Cole Chappell notched a 6-3, 6-3 victory to give the Vikings a 2-0 lead.
After Ball State picked up a win at No. 6 singles, Boyer gave the Vikings their third point of the match with a 6-4, 6-2 victory at No. 5 singles.
The Cardinals were then able to earn a win at No. 2 singles, before Battle clinched the match for the Vikings with a 3-6, 6-4, 6-4 come-from-behind win at the top of the lineup.
In the second match of the day, the Vikings once again earned the early doubles point, with Gedlitschka/Jamison notching a 6-2 win at No. 1 doubles and Battle/Boyer picking up a 6-1 victory at the No. 2 spot.
Cleveland State then picked up a pair of quick wins at No. 1 and No. 4 singles from Battle (6-0, 6-2) and Chappell (6-3, 6-1), respectively, while
Ty Rothchild clinched the match for the Vikings with a 6-1, 6-1 victory at the No. 6 spot.
The trio of Gedlitschka (6-4, 6-4), Boyer (6-3, 6-4) and Jamison (6-1, 4-6, 1-0(10)) closed out the match with wins on their respective courts, giving CSU the 7-0 victory over Findlay.
The Vikings will return to action next weekend, traveling to Toledo on Saturday, February 22 and UIC on Sunday, February 23.
