CLEVELAND, Ohio – The Cleveland State men's tennis team opened a busy weekend Friday evening, picking up a 4-3 win over Xavier.
"It was good to put a W on the board today. We showed signs of life in doubles, and in singles we were able to play from ahead and we needed that because it was another close one. I'm happy we came out on top, and we are looking forward to the rest of the weekend," head coach
Brian Etzkin said.
After dropping the doubles point, the Vikings were able to even the match with a 6-3, 6-1 victory from
Lincoln Battle at the top of the lineup, while a 6-3, 6-4 win from

Cleveland State added to its lead with a 6-2, 6-2 win at No. 3 singles from
Nico Jamison, while a 6-1, 6-4 victory from
Devin Boyer at the No. 5 spot clinched the match for the Vikings.
Prior to the match starting, the Vikings unveiled their 2024 Horizon League Tournament Championship banner, celebrating the team's ninth #HLTennis tournament title.
"It was great to celebrate our 2024 championship one more time, and it's always a special day when you can put a banner in the rafters forever," Etzkin said.
The Vikings will close out the weekend with two matches on Sunday, February 16, hosting Ball State at 11:00 a.m. and Findlay at 4:00 p.m.
