Cleveland State Men's Tennis Picks Up Wins Over NKU & West Liberty

CLEVELAND, Ohio – The Cleveland State men's tennis team closed out its brief three-match homestand Sunday, picking up a pair of wins over Northern Kentucky and West Liberty. With the wins, the Vikings improve to 14-6 overall this season, and 2-0 in Horizon League play.

During the first match, the Vikings picked up their second league win of the weekend, earning a 6-1 win over Northern Kentucky with all six points coming during singles play.

After dropping the doubles point, Cleveland State quickly gained a 2-1 lead to begin singles, as Maxime Mareschal-Hay and Mikael Erler earned matching 6-0, 6-1 victories at the top-two spots in the lineup.

The Vikings then gained a 3-1 advantage following a win from Kade Mindry at No. 4 singles, as he earned a 6-2, 6-1 victory.

Cleveland State's clinching point came from Carl Gedlitschka at the No. 6 spot, as he came out on top of a 6-2, 7-6(2) decision to remain perfect in #HLTennis play.

The Vikings then added on two more points with wins at No. 5 and No. 3 singles, as Devin Boyer earned a 6-4, 7-6(4) win at the No. 5 spot and Raul Teichmann battled for a 6-4, 7-6(5) win at No. 3 singles after being down 5-0 in the second set.

In addition to Gedlitschka, Boyer, Erler and Mareschal-Hay both finished the first weekend of #HLTennis play with 2-0 singles records.

In the second match, the Vikings notched their third straight win with a 7-0 decision over West Liberty, marking the third sweep of the season for Cleveland State.

After picking up the doubles point with matching 6-1 wins from Maxime Mareschal-Hay/Mikael Erler at No. 1 doubles and Carl Gedlitschka/Cole Chappell at the No. 3 spot, the Vikings were able to quickly add to their lead to begin singles play.

Raul Teichmann notched the first singles win of the day with a 6-2, 6-2 victory at No. 2 singles, while Kade Mindry earned a 6-0, 6-1 win at the No. 3 spot, before Austin Staiger clinched the match with a 6-2, 6-0 victory at No. 6 singles.

Cleveland State was also able to pick up singles wins from JuandeDios Abboud (6-4, 6-0), Mikael Erler (6-4, 6-4) and Cole Chappell (2-6, 6-4, 1-0(6)).

With his two singles wins on Saturday, Teichmann now has a team-best 19 singles wins on the year, including a 13-4 mark during the spring season.

Cleveland State will continue Horizon League play on the road next week, traveling to Chicago State on Saturday, April 1.
