UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. – The Cleveland State fencing team continued action at the 2021 NCAA Championships Saturday, with a trio of women's fencers completing their first three rounds. Amanda Provance is currently sitting in 18th place in epee, while Dorian Pichola and Shelbie Seeberg are each in 24th place in saber and foil, respectively.
Provance started round one off very strong, picking up three quick victories. She secured wins over Incarnate Word, UC San Diego and Temple. The momentum continued into round two then, where she secured a victory over the Air Force Academy. Provance then ended her day with a 5-2 victory over Northwestern University.
Seeberg picked up an early over UC San Diego, and even though she only secured one victory on the day, six of her bouts were decided by less than two points. Seeberg's high intensity day saw her lose close bouts to schools like Stanford and North Carolina.
Pichola was unable to pick up a win in the first three rounds, however she was able to push many of her opponents like UC San Diego to a one-point match. She will look to rebound in rounds four and five on Sunday.
Cleveland State is currently in 17th place in the overall team standings.
