Oxford, Miss. - Honesty King and Takima Keane each scored 20 points but it wasn't enough as Cleveland State fell to Ole Miss, 74-63, in the Vikings second game of the Magnolia Classic in Oxford, Miss. on Wednesday (Dec. 21) afternoon.
King scored 16 points in the first half as the Vikings trailed by two, 38-36, at the intermission.
A Destinee Blue jumper - two of her 13 points - tied the game at 38-38 with 18:35 left in regulation before Keane hit a pair of free throws to give CSU a 40-38 lead.
Whitney Hameth hit a three-pointer to give the Rebels a 41-40 lead, and Ole Miss never trailed again to improve to 9-3 on the season. Hameth's three was part of a 10-1 run that stretched the Mississippi lead to 51-42 and provided the Rebels some breathing room.
Keane's three-pointer with 2:21 to go cut the deficit to five points at 68-63, but the Vikings missed their next three shots from the field and committed three turnovers while Ole Miss pieced together a mini 6-0 run to seal the deal.
Ole Miss had three players score in double-figures, led by Valencia McFarland and Nikki Byrd who each chipped in 14 points and 12 more from Danielle McCray off the bench. McFarland paced the Rebel offense with 10 helpers to notch a double-double.
Shalonda Winton, fresh off of a 19-point performance in the overtime win against Murray State on Tuesday (Dec. 20), scored 10 points and Blue grabbed a game-high eight rebounds as CSU fell to 4-6.
The Vikings return home for their first game at the Wolstein Center since Dec. 5 when they host Lake Erie College at 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday (Dec. 28) at 7:00 p.m.
