EVANSTON, Ill. - The Viking men's swimming and diving team remained in second place after day two of the three-day Northwestern TYR Invitational, finishing Saturday (Nov. 20) with 461 points.
"We had some really solid swimming overall," head coach Wally Morton said. "Many of our depth people stepped up, and we're continuing to develop a very balanced team."
Deni Gasparin had the day's top performance for the Vikings, winning the 100 breast (55.85) and helping the 200 medley relay team to a third place finish.
Mark de Swardt took fourth in the 400 IM and helped the 800 free relay team to place third, while Alex Lewis took third in the 100 fly.
Josh Gonzalez placed fourth in the the one-meter dive, the day's only diving event, scoring 247.70.
"I think the men's team will be very balanced and competitive for when the Horizon League Championship comes at the end of the year," Morton said. "This is a good test for how we perform in a championship setting, and I am very pleased with our performances."
The Vikings, with 461 points, trail only Northwestern (732) in the overall standings. CSU is ahead of Kenyon (406.5), North Dakota (338.5) and UIC (334).
Cleveland State will conclude its participation in the Northwestern TYR Invitational on Sunday (Nov. 21) with another full day of events.
