INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. - Stephaine Crosley recorded her first career double-double with 10 points and a career-high 13 rebounds and Cleveland State held IUPUI without a field goal for a 10 minute span in the second half as the Vikings knocked off the Jaguars, 60-49, in nonconference action Wednesday night in The Jungle.
CSU improved to 3-4 this season, while IUPUI slipped to 3-6 this season.
Kailey Klein added 18 points, seven rebounds and five assists, while Brittany Korth scored 11 points and handed out five assists for CSU, which shot .426 (20-47) from the field, while limiting the Jaguars to .328 (19-58) shooting, including a dismal 5-of-24 (.208) in the second half.
The Vikings also outrebounded IUPUI, 36-35, despite the Jaguars having two players in double-digits. In addition, CSU registered assists on 19 of its 20 baskets and had nine steals, including four from Klein.
The Vikings took their largest lead of the first half (26-15) on a pair of free throws from Shawnita Garland, but IUPUI rallied and stayed close thanks to the play of 6-foot-5 sophomore center Julia Whitted. She totaled 14 points on 7-of-13 shooting and grabbed six rebounds, including five offensive boards, in the first half.
After CSU assumed its 11 point margin, the Jaguars closed out the first half on a 16-6 run to slice their deficit to one point (32-31) at the half.
A Robyn Hoying layup to open the second half gave the Vikings a three-point lead (34-31), but IUPUI tied the game at 34-34 when Whitted converted a three-point play with 16:29 to play.
Neither team was able to pull away until the Vikings used a 17-7 run to break open a two-point game and take a 57-45 lead with 2:10 left in the contest. The run was highlighted by four points from Dominique Butler and three-pointers from Brittany Korth and Angel Roque.
Whitted led the Jaguars with 25 points and 11 rebounds, while Jernisha Cann chipped in 12 points and 10 rebounds.
CSU will now have a 10-day layoff for finals week before returning to action on Saturday, Dec. 15, when the Vikings travel to Buffalo for a 7:00 p.m. contest.
