ST. BONAVENTURE, N.Y. - Senior Bjorn Schantz set two pool records in the 500 and 1,000 free and senior Chris Dalman set a pool record in the one-meter dive to lead Cleveland State to a 143-95 win at St. Bonaventure. The Vikings, who won every event but the 200 IM and the 200 breast, are now 3-0 on the season.
Schantz's swim of 9:28.49 in the 1000 free and his time of 4:36.74 in the 500 free were both St. Bonaventure pool records. Schantz also swam on the winning 400 free relay team. Dalman posted a pool-record 375.45 in the three-meter also won the one-meter dive with a score of 326.70.
"We had a lot of close races across the board today, but not for Bjorn," head coach Wally Morton said. "Bjorn blew everyone else away."
Sophomores Marko Milenkovic and Nedim Nisic each had a hand in winning three events, as Milenkovic won the 50 free (:21.86) and the 100 free (:47.51) and swam on the winning 400 medley relay team. Nisic won the 200 free (1:45.25) and the 200 fly (1:55.51) while also swimming on the winning 400 medley relay team.
Sophomore Stef Potgieter posted a 2:07.01 in the 200 breast to finish second.
The win over the Bonnies, who are the defending Atlantic 10 champions, was big in that the Horizon League's best defeated the A-10's best in their pool.
"I told our guys that we weren't just representing our school, but we were representing our conference," Morton said. "I was very impressed with the way our team conducted itself throughout the meet. We responded in a positive way."
The Vikings return home to host the 2006 Cleveland City College Meet on Friday, Nov. 10 at 3:00 p.m. at the Busbey Natatorium.
