CLEVELAND -
A hot-shooting and undefeated Central Michigan (5-0) squad proved to be a test which Cleveland State (2-4 Overall) wasn't able to overcome on Tuesday evening (Dec. 6) at the Wolstein Center as the Chippewas connected on 49.0 percent of their shots en route to a 66-44 victory over the Vikings.
Central Michigan was the fifth undefeated team that CSU faced in its first six games.
Ann Skufca led three CMU players in double figures as she posted an 18-point, 10-rebound performance, both game highs. Directing Cleveland State on the evening was Omega Harrington, with a team-high 11 points. Just missing double-figure efforts were Betsy Bowser and Dominque Butler with eight points apiece. Chasidy Myers and Casey Manning joined Skufca with double-digit performances in registering 12 and 11 tallies, respectively.
While the Chippewas turned in a stellar performance from the field, the Vikings struggled to find their offensive rhythm in the affair as they hit a shade under 34 percent (.339) from the floor. Despite the shooting difference, Cleveland State held its own on the board as CMU emerged with a 35-31 rebounding advantage.
"We missed some easy shots and never gave ourselves a chance to make a run and get back in the game," CSU head coach Kate Peterson said. "We played hard tonight, we just didn't play well. If we can put it together on the offensive end, 66 (points) isn't a bad effort defensively."
The Vikings will have little time to reflect on the setback as the Green and White venture to Dayton, Ohio on Friday (Dec. 9), for a contest versus the University of Dayton. Game time at UD Arena is set for 7:00 p.m.
