INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. – The Cleveland State men's basketball team garnered three Horizon League honors, as announced by the league Monday afternoon.
The Vikings brought in two special awards, with
Chevalier Emery as the Sixth Man of the Year and
Tre Beard receiving the Sportsmanship Award. In addition,
Dayan Nessah was recognized on the Third Team.
CHEVALIER EMERY, SENIOR, GUARD, APPLETON, WISCONSIN, SIXTH MAN OF THE YEAR
Emery was the team's best scorer off the bench, appearing in all 31 games with one start that came on senior day. He averaged 12.6 points per game and 2.1 assists per game. Emery reached double-digit points in 17 games with a season-best 30 at home against Wright State. His shooting percentages were 45.9 from the field, 37.8 from distance, and 77.0 at the charity stripe. In addition, he was top 150 in the country in usage rate.
DAYAN NESSAH, SOPHOMORE, FORWARD, GENEVA, SWITZERLAND, THIRD TEAM
Nessah was the team's leading scorer on the year, averaging 15.5 points per game, and was second in rebounding with 6.4 boards per contest. He ranked seventh in the league in scoring and sixth in rebounding. The sophomore shot 55.3 percent from the field, ranking him second in the Horizon League. In 26 games, the forward appeared and started, accumulating five double-doubles, six games over 20+ points, and five games with double-digit rebounds. In addition, he was top 150 in the country for usage rate and true shooting.
TRE BEARD, SENIOR, CHILLICOTHE, OHIO, SPORTSMANSHIP AWARD
Beard was the team leader on a whole new roster with no returners. He exemplified sportsmanship on a daily basis, putting family and faith above all else. Tre displayed great sportsmanship through each and every game.
