Cleveland State Fencing Set For CCFC Championship

CLEVELAND, Ohio – The Cleveland State fencing team will begin postseason action this weekend, participating in the Central Collegiate Fencing Conference Championships.  The two-day event will run Saturday, February 21 and Sunday, February 22, and will be hosted by Denison University.
 
Fans will be able to follow along live all weekend with video (Saturday & Sunday) and live results (Saturday // Sunday).
 
Saturday Schedule // Team Championship
8:30 a.m. – Women vs. Denison; Men vs. Wayne State
9:40 a.m. – Women vs. Wayne State
10:50 a.m. – Women vs. Northwestern; Men vs. Ohio State
12:30 a.m. – Women vs. Ohio State; Men vs. Detroit Mercy
1:40 p.m. – Men vs. Lawrence
2:50 p.m. – Women vs. Detroit Mercy
4:00 p.m. – Women vs. Lawrence
 
Sunday Schedule // Individual Championship
8:00 a.m. – Women's Competition
12:30 p.m. – Men's Competition
 
Cleveland State will be one of seven teams competing this weekend, joining Denison, Detroit Mercy, Lawrence, Northwestern, Ohio State, and Wayne State.
 
So far this season, four men have recorded 20+ NCAA wins, paced by Marcus Strugar with 33 wins in foil. Jamison Horne has added 24 wins in saber, while Simon Caisse (saber) and Nolan Giovagnoli (epee) have both recorded 22 wins.
 
All six fencers on the women's side have eclipsed the 20-win mark in NCAA bouts this season, including Anna Klimenko and Rayllen Prafil Capaccio who both have 39 wins on the year in epee. Also reaching the 30-win plateau are Anna Quinn with 31 wins in foil and Aubrey Testroet with 30 in saber, while Samantha Way has posted 26 (saber) and Evelyn Malvestuto has recorded 20 (foil).
 
Current Vikings recorded a trio of top-15 individual finishes at last year's CCFC Championships, with Simon Caisse placing 14th in men's saber, and Aubrey Testroet (14th) and Samantha Way (15th) both placing in women's saber.
 
CCFC History
In 2024 Jesse Ndjeka became Cleveland State's first-ever CCFC Champion, capturing top honors in men's epee. Ndjeka went on to earn his first trip to the NCAA Championships later that season.
