Cleveland State Women's Basketball Returns Home To Host Wright State On Wednesday

SETTING THE SCENE
The Cleveland State women's basketball team will open up a three-game homestand this week, hosting Wright State in a 7:00 p.m. contest on Wednesday, January 7. Entering Wednesday's matchup, the Vikings stand at 12-5 overall and 2-4 in Horizon League play, while Wright State is currently 6-10 on the year and 2-3 in league action.

THE CLEVELAND STATE/WRIGHT STATE SERIES
Wednesday's game will mark the 89th meeting between the two teams, with Cleveland State holding a slight 45-43 edge in the all-time series. Cleveland State is currently on a seven-game win streak against the Raiders, including a 2-0 record last year.
 
SCOUTING THE RAIDERS
Wright State enters Wednesday's game with a 6-10 record on the year, including a 2-3 mark in Horizon League play…The Raiders' first two #HLWBB wins of the season have come against Oakland (61-57) and Detroit Mercy (82-71)…Wednesday's game will be the first of a mini two-game roadswing for the Raiders, as they will also travel to IU Indy on Sunday…Among Horizon League teams, Wright State is averaging a league-best 7.6 three-pointers made per game…Individually, Claire Henson ranks third averaging 6.9 rebounds per game, while Breezie Williams ranks seventh in scoring (12.6) and third in steals (2.3).
 
RETURN TO HOME-SWEET-HOME
Wednesday's contest will be the 10th game of a 17-game home slate for the Vikings this season - a place where they own an 8-1 record so far this season. Over the last four years, the Vikings have combined for a 55-4 record when playing at home, including a perfect 17-0 record during the 2023-24 campaign.
 
MAGASSA TRACKING 500 CAREER REBOUNDS
Entering Wednesday's game against Wright State, Ayisse Magassa is tracking down 500 career rebounds, as she currently has 497 boards. So far this season, Magassa is averaging 4.1 rebounds per game with 69 total boards. Earlier this season, Magassa grabbed a season-high 10 rebounds against Akron.
 
ZINGARO NOTCHES 20-POINT EFFORT AT MILWAUKEE
Last time out, Izabella Zingaro recorded her third 20-point performance of the season, finishing with 23 points at Milwaukee. Zingaro's 23 points marked a season-high for the graduate student, while she tallied the 23 points off of a season-high 10 made field goals. Among Horizon League players, Zingaro is now one of eight to have three or more 20-point games this season.
 
…ZINGARO AMONG NATION'S BEST IN FIELD GOAL PERCENTAGE
Entering Wednesday's game, Izabella Zingaro ranks sixth among Division I players with a .650 field goal percentage on the year. Zingaro, who has been perfect from the field twice this season, leads all league players in the category while also ranking second in the #HLWBB standings with a .824 free throw percentage.
                            
LEONARD WITH THE TAKEAWAY
After 17 games played this season, Jada Leonard continues to lead the Horizon League and rank sixth nationally with 56 steals on the year. Leonard, who has recorded at least one takeaway in every game this season, is averaging 3.3 steals per game and had two steals at Milwaukee last time out. Leonard's 56 steals on the year makes her one of 14 Division I players with 50+ takeaways during the 2025-26 campaign.
 
CLEVELAND STATE ON THE OFFENSIVE END
As a team, Cleveland State has had one of the more efficient offenses so far this season, leading the Horizon League in Scoring (71.8), Margin (14.5) and Field Goal Percentage (.459). In addition, the Vikings have scored 70+ points nine times, while three Vikings rank in the top-five among league players in scoring; Colbi Maples (2nd-15.2), Izabella Zingaro (3rd-15.0) and Jada Leonard (4th-13.5).
 
…VIKINGS SHARING THE BALL
So far this season the Vikings have done a good job of sharing the ball, as they rank third among league teams averaging 13.88 assists per game. Last time out, Cleveland State recorded 14 assists at Milwaukee, marking the seventh straight game that the Vikings have recorded double-digit helpers. Through the first 17 games, CSU has posted 10+ assists 15 times, including a pair of 20-assist games.
 
FIVE VIKINGS HAVE DOUBLE-DOUBLES ON THE YEAR
Through the first part of the 2025-26 campaign a league-leading five Vikings have tallied double-doubles, including Izabella Zingaro who has two on the year. Cleveland State also leads the league with eight individual 10+ rebounding performances so far this year, with Zingaro, Madison Royal-Davis and Macey Fegan being three of 12 #HLWBB players with multiple double-digit rebounding efforts.
 
VIKINGS IN THE RANKINGS
Cleveland State entered 2026 ranked 18th in the latest edition of the College Insider Women's Mid-Major Top-25 Poll. The Vikings are one of two Horizon League teams to be in the current rankings (Green Bay), while two other teams are receiving votes (Youngstown State and Purdue Fort Wayne).
 
HEAD COACH CHRIS KIELSMEIER
The Vikings will be under the direction of eighth-year head coach Chris Kielsmeier, who owns a career head coaching record of 580-191. At Cleveland State, Kielsmeier owns a record of 164-75, with his 150th victory as a Viking coming in a 92-61 decision over Detroit Mercy last season. Under his guidance, Cleveland State has posted five 20-win seasons, including a program-record 30 wins during the 2023-24 campaign.
