Muncie, IN-The Cleveland State men's golf team posted a 4-over 284 in the final round of the Earl Yestingsmeier Invitational to finish at 10-over par for the tournament. The Vikings improved by two spots to move up to a seventh-place team finish in the overall standings. Host Ball State took the team title finishing 27-under par.
Brody Simms continued his strong play as he posted an under-par finish for the third time in three fall events to start the season. Simms closed with a 1-over 71 that included four birdies to finish 3-under for the tournament and in 14
th place. Simms tied for third in the field with 38 total pars for the event.
Dillon Pendergast tied for the third best score of the day on Sunday with a 3-under 67. Pendergast moved up 26 spots in the individual standings into a tie for 28
th at 2-over par. Pendergast started his day on the 13
th hole and made four birdies in his first five holes. He added one more on the front nine for a total of five in his final round.
Trace Gibson posted his best finish of the season as he closed at 5-over par in a tie for 38
th. Gibson, a freshman playing in his first collegiate events, carded a 4-over 74 in the final round.
Ryan Dinan finished tied for 45
th at 6-over par and
Dominik Cosic finished tied for 66
th at 11-over. Dinan shot a final round 72 and Cosic finished with a 75.
Ben Scheeff, playing as an individual, posted his season-low round on the final day. Scheeff carded an even par round of 70 which included three birdies. He finished in 78
th place at 15-over par.
Cleveland State returns home and will have some time off before the Vikings will host the
Tom Tontimonia Invitational. The tournament is scheduled for October 6-7 at Lakewood Country Club in Westlake.
