HOWEY-IN-THE-HILLS, Fla. – The Cleveland State golf team opened play at the 2026 Horizon League Championship Saturday, currently sitting tied for sixth at seven-over par after the first round.
The Vikings made up ground on the back nine during Saturday's round, shooting 12-under par to move into their T-6 position.
Individually,
Brody Simms paced the Vikings finishing T-7 following 18 holes, sitting at one-under par. Simms recorded a team-best six birdies on the day, including four on the back nine to move into the top-10.
Dillon Pendergast and
Trace Gibson both sit in the top-20 after the first round of play, Pendergast at one-over par (T-16) and Gibson at two-over par (T-18). Pendergast notched three birdies during his opening round, while Gibson recorded a birdie and an eagle on the par-five 14
th hole.
Cleveland State's next individual sits T-35 following 18 holes, as
Ryan Dinan is currently five-over par. During Dinan's first round, he recorded a trio of birdies, with all three coming on the back nine to move into a top-40 position.
Also competing for the Vikings was
Dominik Cosic who sits at 12-over par heading into the second round of action.
Day two at the Horizon League Championship will take place tomorrow, with the men's round set for the afternoon wave at 12:00 p.m.
