Rochester, MI-The Cleveland State men's golf team posted another successful finish on Sunday as the Vikings wrapped up the Oakland Golden Grizzlies Intercollegiate with a third-place team finish. Cleveland State capped the weekend at 28-over par and took the top spot among Horizon League teams competing in the event. Butler won the tournament finishing at 5-over par.
Brody Simms and
Dillon Pendergast continued their respective strong play to open the season. Both finished the tournament at 1-under par in a tie for third place, three shots back of the winning score. They were part of a group of six total players who finished the event under par.
Simms closed with a 1-over 72 that included one birdie and two bogeys. After picking up a win in the opening event at Marshall earlier in the week, Simms recorded a second consecutive top five finish. Pendergast posted an even par 71 balancing three birdies and three bogeys. After finishing tied for fifth at Marshall, Pendergast improved his placement in the second event of the fall and recorded his second straight top five finish.
Dominik Cosic finished tied for 54
th at 17-over par.
Trace Gibson finished tied for 61
st at 19-over par and
Ryan Dinan ended in 69
th place at 24-over.
Oakland's Katke Course proved to be tough all weekend long. Pendergast tied for first in the field on the par-3's for the weekend finishing at 2-under. Simms finished tied for second on the par-5's at 3-under par, while Pendergast tied for eighth at 2-under. Simms was also tied for sixth in the field on the par-4's at 1-over par.
Pendergast totaled 11 birdies for the weekend which was tied for the second most in the field. Simms finished fifth in the field with 39 total pars.
Cleveland State returns to action next weekend as the Vikings travel to Indiana for the Earl Yestingsmeier Invitational hosted by Ball State next Saturday and Sunday.
