CLEVELAND, Ohio – The Horizon League announced its annual candidates for the NCAA Woman of the Year Award, with Cleveland State women's tennis graduate
Filippa Frogner earning the nomination.
The award dates back to 1991 and honors the top graduating female student-athletes in the country for excellence in academics, athletics, community service, and leadership throughout their college careers.
"I'm both excited and very honored to receive this nomination. My four years as a student-athlete at Cleveland State were fantastic, and I'm grateful for all the women who came before me and paved the way. A place is nothing without it's people, and I'm thankful for all of the amazing ones who made my time here so special. I'm forever proud to be a Viking, and always proud to carry Cleveland State with me into the next chapter!"
Earlier this year, Frogner was named the ITA Midwest Region Cissie Leary Sportsmanship Honoree, while also picking up Horizon League Sportsmanship honors in women's tennis and serving as Cleveland State's department-wide candidate for the same award. As a two-year SAAC officer, Frogner was part of the CSU Honors College during her time as a Viking, and was recognized as an Outstanding Scholar from the College of Arts & Sciences.
In addition, Frogner was awarded the John Konstantinos Family Scholarship at the annual Athletics Academic Honors Luncheon, recognized for her leadership in the classroom and in competition, while embodying and reflecting the virtues of the former CSU AD.
Frogner, who was part of three Horizon League Regular Season Championships, helped the Vikings reach a trio of championship matches during her career as an integral part of the singles and doubles lineup. A three-year team captain, Frogner helped the Vikings combine for 55 wins throughout her four years, including a 22-2 record in Horizon League regular season matches.
After graduating Summa Cum Laude with a degree in international relations this spring, Frogner is currently completing her fourth summer working as a breaking news journalist for VG (Norway's biggest newspaper), while also participating in a six-month internship at the Royal Norwegian General Consulate in Mumbai, India.
