Cleveland, OH-While classes may not be in session this time of year, the Cleveland State men's golf team has been hard at work with several Viking student-athletes posting standout performances in summer tournaments throughout the state.
Rising sophomore
Ryan Dinan picked up a tournament victory as he took first place in the Northern Ohio PGA Junior Tour Championship at Barrington Golf Club. Dinan posted rounds of 70-74 to win the 36-hole event finishing at even par. Dinan led wire-to-wire carding five total birdies and leading the field with 26 pars.
Rising senior
Brody Simms posted a top-20 finish in the Ohio Amateur and most recently finished as the runner-up in the prestigious Metropolitan Amateur Championship hosted by the Miami Valley Golf Association. Simms finished with all four rounds in the 60s at Windy Knoll Golf Club in Springfield posting a 21-under par total. Simms carded 24 birdies, the third-highest total in the field, as well as an eagle against just five bogeys over the 72-hole event.
Rising junior
Dillon Pendergast also posted a strong finish in the Ohio Amateur. Pendergast finished tied for fourth at 12-under par for the tournament at Zanesville Country Club. Pendergast posted back-to-back rounds in the 60s to close the event and totaled 10 birdies over his final 36 holes. In addition, he posted a top-30 finish at the Ohio Open earlier this summer.
All three are set to return to the Cleveland State lineup this fall as part of a five-man returning core headed into the 2025-26 season. Cleveland State will kick off the fall portion of its schedule in early September.
