Frogner Named ITA Midwest Region Cissie Leary Sportsmanship Honoree

GILBERT, Ariz. – The Intercollegiate Tennis Association announced its regional awards Tuesday, with Cleveland State graduate Filippa Frogner being named the Midwest Region Cissie Leary Sportsmanship Honoree.

The Cissie Leary Sportsmanship award was created in 1997, honoring a Division I women's student-athlete who displays inspiring dedication and commitment to her team, which has enhanced her team's performance and exemplified the spirit of college tennis.

During her final season as a Viking, Frogner picked up Horizon League Sportsmanship honors in women's tennis, while also being tabbed as Cleveland State Athletics' department-wide candidate for the same award. As a two-year SAAC officer, Frogner was part of the CSU Honors College and was recognized as an Outstanding Scholar from the College of Arts & Sciences.

"We are beyond proud to celebrate Filippa with this award – an honor that speaks to the very heart of who she is, both on and off the court," head coach Frank Polito said. "Filippa embodies everything this award stands for – a steady commitment to her teammates, a quiet strength in the face of challenges, and a fierce love for the game that inspires everyone around her. We are certainly proud to have Filippa as part of the Cleveland State women's tennis family."

Earlier this year, Frogner was also awarded the John Konstantinos Family Scholarship at the annual Athletics Academic Honors Luncheon, recognized for her leadership in the classroom and in competition, while embodying and reflecting the virtues of the former CSU AD.

Frogner, who was part of three Horizon League Regular Season Championships, helped the Vikings reach a trio of championship matches during her career as an integral part of the singles and doubles lineup. A three-year team captain, Frogner helped the Vikings combine for 55 wins throughout her four years, including a 22-2 record in Horizon League regular season matches.

After graduating Summa Cum Laude with a degree in international relations this spring, Frogner is completing her fourth summer working as a breaking news journalist for VG (Norway's biggest newspaper), and will soon begin a six-month internship at the Royal Norwegian General Consulate in Mumbai, India.
