ANN ARBOR, Mich – The Cleveland State women's tennis team opened play in the Horizon League Tournament Saturday, picking up a 4-1 victory over Northern Kentucky in the semifinals. With Saturday's win the Vikings have earned a spot in Sunday's #HLTennis Championship match with first serve set for 11:00 a.m. against No. 2 seed Youngstown State.
After dropping the doubles point, the Vikings were able to even the match with a 6-2, 6-2 win from
Sima Heren at No. 2 singles, before a 6-4, 6-1 win from
Tereze Vevere at the No. 3 spot gave the Vikings a 2-1 edge.
Ella Franz then put the Vikings up 3-1 following a 6-3, 6-3 win at No. 4 singles, while
Oihane Vicario picked up a 6-4, 6-4 win at the top of the lineup to clinch the match for the Vikings.
Vicario's win at the top of the lineup marked win 20 on the year for the senior, while Vevere moved into a tie for second place on the CSU Single-Season Wins List with her 26
th win of the year.
Cleveland State, who is playing as the No. 1 seed in this year's #HLTennis Tournament, was making its 14
th straight semifinal appearance, and will be trying for its first-ever Tournament title tomorrow.
