Springboro, OH-The Cleveland State men's golf team is in third place in the team race after the first two rounds of the Wright State Invitational. The Vikings fell one stroke shy of tying the program mark for the best single round score with an 8-under 276 in the first round. The current mark of 275 was set this past fall on the first day of the Joe Feaganes Marshall Invitational. Cleveland State finished with a 286 in the second round for a two-round total of 6-under 562. Host Wright State leads the tournament at 11-under through 36 holes.

Andrew Kaye and Mason Frazier are both in the top ten individually through two rounds with each sitting tied for seventh place at 2-under par.

Kaye started the day with a 3-under 68 and followed with a 1-over 72 in the second round. He started off hot in the first round recording three consecutive birdies on holes 3-5 and an eagle on the par-5 ninth for a 5-under 31 on the front nine. Frazier played steady golf for most of the day recording three birdies and one bogey in his first round for a 2-under 69. He had a brief hiccup in the second round with a double bogey on the second hole but rebounded nicely with three birdies against one bogey the rest of the round to finish at even par 71. Wright State's Timmy Hollenbeck leads the tournament at 9-under through two rounds.

Brody Simms and Dillon Pendergast made it four student-athletes for the Vikings to finish the day in red figures. Simms and Pendergast are tied for 15th at 1-under for the tournament.

Simms recorded three birdies and two bogeys in his opening round finishing at 1-under 70. In the second round he added two more birdies and an eagle to balance four bogeys and post an even par 71. Pendergast posted five birdies and three bogeys in his first round on his way to a 2-under 69. Pendergast finished bogey-free on the back nine in his opening round finishing with a 2-under 33. His second round featured three birdies against four bogeys for a 1-over 72.

Rounding out the Viking lineup, Ryan Dinan is tied for 63rd at 7-over for the tournament after rounds of 77-72. Alex Anderson is tied for 76th at 12-over after rounds of 79-75.

Dominik Cosic is also tied for 76th after finishing with identical rounds of 79-75 in his first 36 holes. Ben Scheeff is tied for 83rd at 15-over after rounds of 76-81. Both Cosic and Scheeff played as individuals.

Cleveland State took advantage of the par-5's at Heatherwoode Golf Club finishing with the second-best team total on the par-5's in the field. The Vikings were a combined 17-under par through the first two rounds. The Vikings also finished third in pars with 136 and had the fifth-most total birdies with 33.

Kaye was a major reason for Cleveland State's success on the par-5's as he registered a 5-under total on those holes which was tied for fourth in the field. Frazier's steady play resulted in him tying for the top spot in the field with 27 pars on day one.
