Cleveland State Men's Basketball Defeats Oakland City, 96-52

CLEVELAND – Cleveland State (4-8, 0-2 Horizon League) defeated Oakland City (4-6, 1-0 RSC), 96-52, on Sunday afternoon at Woodling Gymnasium.

"This was a good game from our guys both on the offensive and defensive side," head coach Rob Summers said. "We really focused in on taking care of the basketball and focused in on the turnovers. We had 27 assists and 12 turnovers and we are proud of that."

Five Vikings finished in double figures as senior guard Jaidon Lipscomb (Columbus, Ohio) and junior guard Chevalier Emery (Appleton, Wisconsin) led the game with 16 points each. Lipscomb was 6-of-9 from the field and 4-of-7 from the three-point line, while Emery was 6-of-10 and 2-of-6 from deep. Sophomore forward Dayan Nessah (Geneva, Switzerland) added 14 points on 6-of-8 shooting. Junior forward Preist Ryan (Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania) and had 11 points while senior guard Tre Beard (Chillicothe, Ohio) had 10 points. Senior guard Foster Wonders (Iron Mountain, Michigan) made three from deep for nine points.

"I think Foster hasn't even scratched the surface of what he's going to do for us," Summers added. "I'm excited for that levy to break. He's a dangerous shooter."

As a team, Cleveland State shot above 50 percent as they finished 37-of-68 (54.4%) from the field and 12-of-31 (38.7%) from deep. The Vikings scored 46 points in the paint and 23 second chance points. Oakland City was held to 16-of-54 (29.6%) from the field and 5-of-18 (27.8%) from the three-point line.

The Vikings Outrebounded the Mighty Oaks 54-21 and had a season-high 26 second chance points. Nessah led the way with eight rebounds while freshman forward Kevo St. Hilaire (West Lafayette, Indiana) pulled down seven boards.

Cleveland State assisted on 27 baskets and were led by Lipscomb with six. Eight Vikings ended with at least one assist.

CSU led wire-to-wire, with their biggest lead coming at 44 points. The Vikings biggest run was 12 at the 8:40 mark in the second half.

Cleveland State continues nonconference play on Wednesday as they take UAB. Tip-off is set for 7:30 pm in Birmingham.
