BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – Cleveland State (4-9, 0-2 Horizon) fell to UAB (8-4,0-0 American), 101-77, on Wednesday evening at Bartow Arena.
Junior guard
Chevalier Emery (Appleton, Wisconsin) had a season-high 25 points after shooting 5-of-7 from the three-point line and 7-of-11 from the field. Emery added six from the free throw line and had two assists.
Sophomore forward
Dayan Nessah (Geneva, Switzerland) added 18 points on 7-of-10 shooting. Senior guard
Jaidon Lipscomb (Columbus, Ohio) had 13 points and a team-high six rebounds.
As a team, Cleveland State show 25-of-58 (43.1%) from the field and 13-of-28 (46.4%) from deep. CSU was 14-of-15 (93.3%) from the free throw line. UAB shot 37-of-66 (56.1%) and 8-of-21 (38.1%) from the three-point line. The Blazers were 19-of-29 (65.5%) from the free throw line.
The Vikings were outrebounded 40-28. Lipscomb led the way with six. Junior forward
Preist Ryan (Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania) pulled down five boards.
16 of CSU's 25 shots were assisted, with Lipscomb and Senior guard
Tre Beard (Chillicothe, Ohio) leading the team with five each.
The game saw 11 lead changes. Cleveland State was able to take the lead at the 1:58 mark of the first half and went into the locker room down 42-37. UAB pushed its lead early in the second half and won the game, 101-77.
Cleveland State has wrapped up non-conference play and will continue Horizon League action on Sunday as they take on Milwaukee at the Wolstein Center. Tip-off is set for 5 p.m. and can be watched live on ESPN+.
