INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. – After winning the program's second Horizon League Regular Season championship, the Cleveland State men's soccer team garnered numerous all-league honors, as announced by the league Friday afternoon.
The notable special awards were: head coach
Sinisa Ubiparipovic named Coach of the Year,
Uros Jevtic named Defensive Player of the Year,
Ryan Poling named Goalkeeper of the Year, and
Uzman Ramees named Freshman of the Year. In addition, eight Vikings were named to the All-League Teams.
SINISA UBIPARIPOVIC | COACH OF THE YEAR | SEVENTH SEASON
Ubiparipovic received his second Coach of the Year recognition after leading the Vikings to their second #HLMSOC Regular Season title. He becomes the second coach in program history to receive this honor multiple times.
The Green and White put up a 7-3-6 overall record and a 5-1-3 mark in league matches. The team had a 12-game unbeaten streak, tying the program record, which was the third-longest in the country.
UROS JEVTIC | DEFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE YEAR | SENIOR | FIRST TEAM ALL-LEAGUE
Jevtic became the fourth player in program history to be named Defensive Player of the Year, with the last honoree coming in 2021. Jevtic served as the team captain and appeared in all 16 contests this season. The Belgrade, Serbia, native scored his first collegiate goal at Mercyhurst on Oct. 21. The All-League recognition is the second of his career after being named Second Team as a freshman.
RYAN POLING| GOALKEEPER OF THE YEAR | GRADUATE | FIRST TEAM ALL-LEAGUE
Poling is just the second player in team history to receive Goalkeeper of the Year honors, with the first-ever coming in 2010. The Avon, Ohio, native started 15 games this season, accumulating a 7-3-5 record to go along with four shutouts. The graduate racked up 51 saves en route to his first-career All-League honor.
UZMAN RAMEES | FRESHMAN OF THE YEAR | THIRD TEAM ALL-LEAGUE
Ramees becomes the second consecutive Viking to be named Freshman of the Year. The Brampton, Ontario, native appeared in all 16 games with seven starts as a forward. Ramees was tied for the team lead in assists with four and was tied for third in total points with eleven. He also added three goals and received one offensive player of the week award.
PELEG ARMENDARIZ | FIRST TEAM ALL-LEAGUE | JUNIOR
Armendariz earned First Team All-League honors as a forward in his first season with the Vikings. The Austin, Texas, native started all 15 games that he appeared in, leading the Green and White in goals (5), game-winners (3), and was tied for the team lead in points (11). His best game came against Purdue Fort Wayne with a goal and an assist.
TOM MERTZ | FIRST TEAM ALL-LEAGUE | SOPHOMORE
After making the third team as a freshman, Mertz moved up to the first team as a sophomore. The midfielder played in all 16 games, starting 14 of those. The Bohringen, Germany, native scored three goals, all of which came in league play.
MATTEO CORREIA | SECOND TEAM ALL-LEAGUE | SOPHOMORE
The 2024 #HLMSOC Freshman of the Year found himself on the second team for a second straight year. Correia tied for the team lead in points with eleven after scoring four goals and adding three assists. His goal against Bowling Green was the game-winner. This season, the Toronto, Canada, native played in 15 games with 13 starts.
LENNART HECK | SECOND TEAM ALL-LEAGUE | SOPHOMORE
Heck received his first all-league honor after playing in 15 games with 14 starts on the backline. Heck helped the backline to four shutouts this year. The Duisburg, Germany, native scored a goal and added three assists for five points. His goal against Oakland was the first of his career and also the game-winner. In the very next game, he picked up his first-ever assist versus Northern Kentucky.
OGNJEN BOZOVIC | THIRD TEAM ALL-LEAGUE | JUNIOR
Bozovic gained third-team all-league recognition in his first season at Cleveland State. The junior started 13 of the 15 games that he appeared in as a midfielder. The Belgrade, Serbia, native tallied three goals, with his first in the Green and White coming against St. Bonaventure. He also had the game-winner against Detroit Mercy.
