Columbus, OH-The Cleveland State fencing teams closed out their season opening weekend with a team competition at the OSU Duals hosted by Ohio State University in Columbus. Both teams competed in four dual meet matches claiming five combined victories on the day.
The men's team collected three victories to finish 3-1 overall. Cleveland State defeated Michigan, Denison and Purdue in its first three matches before falling to Wayne State in the final match of the day.
The women's team finished 2-2 overall with wins over Michigan and Purdue and losses to the host Buckeyes and Wayne State.
The men's saber squad of
Jamison Horne,
Simon Caisse and
Conner Bailey were strong throughout the day. The Vikings won saber in three of the four matches claiming 27 combined bout victories for the day.
The Vikings return to action in early November with a competition at Drew University in New Jersey scheduled for Sunday, November 2.
