Hinckley, OH-The Cleveland State men's golf team sits in fifth place in the team standings after the opening round of the Tom Tontimonia Invitational hosted by CSU at Pine Hills Golf Club. Cleveland State posted an 8-over par 288 in the opening round. Conditions were challenging due to significant rainfall in the Cleveland area over the weekend which shortened the tournament's opening day to 18 holes. Oakland holds the lead at the end of the first round with a 4-under score of 276.
Ryan Dinan finished with the low round of the day for the Vikings posting an even par 70 to sit in a tie for 13
th place. Dinan, competing as an individual, played steady golf all day with birdies on the first and 15
th holes to balance out a double bogey. He made pars on the other 15 holes to finish the day at even par.
Brody Simms and
Mason Frazier are each tied for 16
th place after posting 1-over 71 in the opening round. Frazier finished the day with three birdies and four bogeys, including back-to-back birdies on holes 15 and 16. Simms also totaled three birdies and four bogeys. All three of his birdies came on the back nine in which he finished at 1-under 34.
Andrew Kaye and
Dillon Pendergast are each at 3-over par and in a tie for 36
th after rounds of 73. Kaye started the day 4-over in his first six holes but rebounded with three birdies over his final 12 holes to finish at 3-over. Pendergast played the par-3's at Pine Hills well, finishing 2-under with two birdies on the four par-3's.
Rounding out the lineup,
Dominik Cosic is tied for 57
th after a 6-over 78.
Ben Scheeff is 2-over par and tied for 29
th playing as an individual after a round of 72.
Alex Anderson, also playing as an individual, is tied for 45
th after a 4-over round of 76.
The tournament concludes with the second and final round tomorrow morning. Play begins with a 9:00 a.m. shotgun start. Live scoring will be available on Scoreboard Live throughout the day.
